Spruce Text Messaging

    We are pleased to offer Spruce, a free, HIPAA secure, text messaging service as a convenient feature for busy parents.

    Once your child is registered at the practice, we will send you an invitation to join Spruce. Patients over 12 years old are allowed to sign up directly using their own device.

    During office hours, text messages will be responded to as quickly as possible, but there may be a delay if we are busy seeing patients. When indicated, your child may be scheduled for a same-day or next-day appointment. If you would like to schedule a same-day appointment, it is always fastest to call us during business hours.

Please note, routine medications will not be called in after hours.

When the office is closed, there are several options:
  • 24-Hour Nurse Line: there is a FREE service on the back of your health insurance card with the phone number for a 24-hour nurse line. Please use this number for non-urgent questions.
  • Spruce Text Messaging: for urgent questions when the office is closed, until 9 PM, sending a message via Spruce will connect you with Dr. Berrick. You should receive a response within one hour. Non-urgent messages will be responded to the next business day.
  • Patient Portal: for non-urgent questions or messages, please submit a message through the patient portal. Please allow up to 3 business days to return portal messages.
  • Call Our Office: call (508) 500-6622 to be connected with Dr. Berrick after hours. Please only call after hours for urgent questions. Non-urgent calls or messages will be responded to the next business day.
  • Urgent Care/ER: we encourage you to call the office prior to going to the urgent care or emergency room so we can assist you in your child’s needs. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) strongly recommends that your first call should be to your pediatrician’s office even if the office is closed when not a medical emergency. According to the AAP, urgent care facilities can provide an alternative for acute care only if your doctor’s office is not available.
  • If your child needs urgent/emergent treatment, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
